APPEARANCES

People have outward appearances which hide their inner, true selves. This is especially true of a lot of Hollywood celebrities. Outwardly, they smile and appear happy. However, when one looks at their private lives, we realize that they also struggle with problems such as broken marriages, addictions, etc. The theme of the painting Appearances is that of appearance versus reality. The reflection of the sun on the water reveals the sun's inner, true self — rays of different colours and a different shape in the sun's centre. Our hidden, inner struggles give us more reason to have solid fellowship with God. The Holy Trinity is represented here by the dotted leaves, painted in the three primary colours. The three mountains also symbolize the three persons of the Holy Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
