FALLEN ANGEL
Fallen Angel uses colour and object symbolism to depict the fall of Lucifer from Heaven. The candle with its flame and smoke portrays Lucifer as an angel of light before his fall. His doom is represented by the arrow pointing and heading straight down to earth. The candle/arrow also looks like a missile, heading downward. The missile shows Satan as an evil and spiritual force of destruction and death. Starting from the top of the painting, the blue colour of the candle's smoke symbolizes peace, thereby showing that Lucifer was originally a peaceful angel. Blue is then followed by the colour yellow, representing his turn from obedience to disobedience. The third stage is the red hue, revealing a changed Lucifer, consumed with fierce anger and complete rebellion against God and his kingdom. Finally, the colour black symbolizes the darkness and death which Satan brings on earth. It also reveals Satan's defeat and the end of his rule on earth.
